WHAT I'VE DECIDED AFTER WATCHING THE SHIAVO LADY
I've always wondered what I'd do if one of my children was on the brink of death and had to be placed on life support. I'm selfish. I'd want to hold onto them forever. I'd say yes, put that thing in their mouth to help them breath, tracheotomy? Yes, that would prolong their life, that too, oh, the shock thingy? I guess. What is a mother supposed to do but think from her heart?
I couldn't bear to be without my child. They're not supposed to die before me. Then this Shiavo(sp) lady comes into my living room and into my head and I watch as she literally is starved to death and I think, how could they do this to a living human being. I think of the animals that are put to death because there are too many of them. I think of prisoners who have killed others that are mercifully put to death by injection. They are not starved to death, not allowed to have their lips parched because they can't have ice chips and I begin to think of euthanasia...perhaps it might've been a word in an up-coming spelling bee where a student would know the root word comes from the Greeks,"Greek euthanasi, a good death : eu-, eu- + thanatos, death.]"
Could we not have just given this woman an overdose of demerol or laughing gas or whatever it is that they give you before surgery so that she doesn't have to suffer? Wouldn't that have been the humane way to handle this woman who did nothing to deserve what she's undergoing as the courts fight it out?
I realize that karmic debts eventually have to be paid so those that cause this woman's pain will have to feel and suffer her pain before they cross over to the 'other side'.....but dear God, did they have to cause this woman to suffer so that they could be 'right'?
There are some people that have to be 'right' at all cost.....the Shiavo woman being the sacrificial lamb....then perhaps somewhere down(or up) the line, Someone will be 'Right' and will suffer the consequences. How appropriate that the suffering of the cross has its parallel this week and how one Human Being was sacrificed because they thought the Crucifixion was the right thing to do!
