TUBERS MOVE OVER..........YOU'VE GOT COMPETITION!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, seems we might have some fair and balanced news after all?

K57 announced yesterday(as did the PDN today) that broadcasting mogul, Rex Sorensen, bought out Channel 14(ABC).......and that.......he's going to be airing shows not a week later but hours later via internet(I won't even try to explain how it works!) and that........the company's going to be doing the news thingy.....so......there'll be two views instead of only one......
According to Jon Anderson's report last evening, the sale/take over will take about 8 weeks.....
Congratulations Rex and company..........it'll be interesting watching the next election, eh?

KUAM doesn't set the bar very high. At this point, any competitor that comes in will easily appear more professional. How sad. This doesn't say much about how we as locals handle our businessess. Not to take away anything from the Calvo's. The brothers are truely professional businessmen who have grown their companies and turned a good profit. Their biggest mistake in allowing their children to take over without the education, experience and background to make it great.

I remember thinking how great it was to have the Calvo's take over KUAM. It was the shot in the arm that station needed: infusion of funds, and finally, unbiased news from a local perspective. A great counter to the crap we were fed by the Great White Father, Lee Holmes. Remember those days? Now I look back and say, at least Cable 6 News was professional. Again, how sad that we lost an opportunity to make it great, huh?

WOW, this could be good news. One thing I do like about K-57's operation is they adhere strictly to the clock. I mean to the second. Why do I say that? Because KUAM's operation can't seem to do that. The 6PM new might start at 5:57 or maybe at 6:10. Their cable channels 8 and 11 are a source of real irritation to me. I can't watch all the channels at once, so I make use of several VCR's and program my favorite shows to tape and watch at my convenience. If you're one who programs a TV show on the VCR and when you go to watch the tape you may be missing the prologue of a show (which really hurts if it's a crime or mystery type show) or find the ending is chopped off. Even the credits these days are worth viewing for previews of the following show or the credits. Setting the VCR timer to start five minutes early or end ten minutes after the hour aren't always a solution. Come election time Channels 8 and 11 are heavily loaded with repetitious campaign ads and there is no telling when any show will start or end. So...I hope ABC14's new management raises the professionalism bar and hopefully the other operation will take note. I'd call or visit KUAM to express my concerns, but I think it would be a waste of time. Past attempts have been in vain. So, like a lot of other things on Guam that might 'bug' you...just give up and go where the wind takes you. It only takes someone who is a boss, a leader or who cares if neither of those to raise the bar. Alas, that is not the case. A related item. If you try to follow the TV schedules, especially Channel 11, you'll most likely find out it's a week off with the synopsis' of some shows. Guam hasn't had a decent TV guide since Guam Cable closed it's doors. They had a nice publication and was worth paying for each week. Sabrina might remember as I recall when she first started working at Guam Cable as a very young intern. Now look at her...way up on top. I swear, ladies are taking over the world. And I ain't complaining about it. Maybe a lady governor next time around? No...not either of the two who have tried in the past. I think I've just deviated off the topic's path, haven't I?
